AI writing indicator : A weighted set of linguistic signals that may support review of possible AI-assisted writing. It is not proof of authorship or misconduct.
Confidence : An indication of whether the document has enough usable text and sentence structure for the AI signals to be calculated meaningfully.
Draft processing : Scanning a submission while its Moodle status is still a draft, before final submission.
Institutional database : Earlier submissions indexed inside the same ScholarScan tenant and available for comparison according to policy.
Institutional reference : An active reference document managed for the institution in ScholarScan.
Lecturer file : A locally supplied reference document used for comparison or an optional grading suggestion.
Matched source : A submission or reference document containing text that overlaps with the current submission.
Moodle platform : One Moodle installation registered under a ScholarScan tenant. Each platform uses its own API token and identifier namespace.
Needs resubmission : The processing state used after ScholarScan reaches the tenant's failure-attempt limit. A fresh file must be uploaded.
OCR : Optical character recognition, used to extract text from scanned or image-only PDF pages.
Pending : A report is queued, processing, or waiting for Moodle synchronization.
Report synchronization : The Moodle scheduled task that copies the latest ScholarScan status and percentages into Moodle's local report mapping.
Shingle : A short sequence of normalized words used by ScholarScan when comparing document overlap.
Similarity percentage : An estimate of overlap with sources available to the configured checks. It is not a misconduct decision.
Submission indexing : Storing processed comparison data so the submission can be matched against future work in the tenant.
Tenant : The institution-isolated ScholarScan account containing its own submissions, references, API credentials, and housekeeping settings.
